Residential (October 2016)

Date posted: Tuesday 1st November 2016

As part of our pastoral and team building work pupils from group 3 visited the Yorkshire dales for a residential. The idea came from pupil Dylan and Mr Robinson sought an appropriate location. The group stayed at the Beamsley Project in Skipton and visited Yorkshire Dales,  Billy Bob ice cream parlour  and the Forbidden corner. A great time was had at both locations which were suitably decorated for Halloween. The group had hours of fun on rope swings, hay bales, slides and foam filled pools at Billy Bobs. They ate hot dogs and burgers in an authentic big yellow American school bus.

At the Forbidden Corner the group followed mazes and puzzles, secret tunnels and underground worlds. Almost everyone received a good soaking via the Roman stepping stones, the scary crow and various other sculptures and features that squirt visitors.

Back at the Beamsley project the team prepared an evening meal followed by onsite activities. These included a highly competitive game of Dobble, Lego kits, table tennis, pool and a game of indoor Football/tennis.

The behaviour and engagement of pupils throughout was outstanding. The following day a planned trip to Hesketh farm was cancelled which led to a vote and a unanimous decision to return to Billy Bob’s for one last visit.

All pupils scored the residential 10/10 and cited the only area for improvement would be a longer residential next time.

A huge thanks to all the staff who supported this and gave up their time to make it possible.
